Camp Caraway

Do you want to seize the opportunity to guide and to have a lasting impression on young men ages nine and up? If so, apply to work on the Camp Caraway summer staff. This program is sponsored by NC Baptist Men. Camp Caraway is a Christian camp for boys ages 9-17. There are 3 types of positions on the Camp Caraway staff: counselor (college age), lifeguard (college age), and counselor in training (CIT - high school junior or senior).

A counselor is directly responsible for the cabin to which he is assigned. Each cabin will average from 8-14 boys. A counselor has the task of making a weekly schedule and leading his cabin through those planned activities. Fourteen counselors will be hired for nine weeks of camp at a salary of $190 a week, plus lodging, meals, and insurance at no cost. Orientation for staff will begin in early June, 2010.

A lifeguard is totally responsible for the waterfront at Caraway. This includes both pool and lake front maintenance and safety. The lifeguard must be American Red Cross certified, and is paid as a counselor.

A counselor in training is a high school-age young man who assists and learns from a counselor. To be eligible, a young man must be at least 16 years old. Seven counselors in training (CITs) will be hired at a salary of $140 per week, plus food, lodging, and insurance. These CITs will also work in the camp canteen and kitchen from time to time.
